Look out to sea from the stunning Miramare Castle, adorned by gardens with ponds, home to swans and lotus flowers. Visit the Revoltella Museum with works by De Chirico, Fattori and Sironi. Return to ancient times and see King Richards’ Arch, crossed by him during the Crusades, or better yet, visit the Roman theatre partially carved out of the mountain. Venture into one of the 1500 caves found outside the city such as the Grotta Gigante, large enough to contain Rome’s St. Peter’s basilica.  Relax along the Timavo River, now on the UNESCO list. Take the day to visit nearby Duino with a stunning white castle perched high on cliff overlooking emerald waters.  Last but not least, discover the culinary side of Trieste by trying the ‘Jota’ and the ‘Cialzons’ and sweets such as the ‘Pinza’ and the famous strudel.
